We are thrilled to have you take the next step in becoming an integral part of our volunteer team. Before embarking on your training, please ensure you have attended our orientation class and completed all the required paperwork. Once this step is done, we can proceed with scheduling your personalized training session with our volunteer coordinator.
At our initial training shift, we will focus on providing you with essential skills and knowledge for your volunteer role. For those interested in working with dogs and cats, we will cover how to take them out for walks and playtime, as well as where to find necessary items like leashes, treats, and other supplies.
To ensure your confidence and competence in your role, we have a supportive approach to training. New volunteers will receive guidance and assistance from staff and experienced volunteers for several shifts before transitioning to working independently.
Training requirements may vary based on the specific area of the shelter you wish to volunteer in:
Kennel entries and safe handling techniques.
Walking dogs and familiarizing yourself with exercise locations.
Learning basic commands for effective communication with the dogs.
Understanding canine behavior and body language.
Housekeeping procedures for the cat areas.
Familiarization with appropriate roaming areas for the cats.
Proper handling and socialization techniques for our feline residents.
Understanding cat behavior and body language to ensure their comfort.
We are committed to providing comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out your volunteer responsibilities confidently and safely.
Your dedication and passion for making a difference in the lives of our shelter animals are deeply appreciated. We look forward to guiding you through this fulfilling journey as a valued member of our volunteer team. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to contact our volunteer coordinator. Thank you for your commitment to our cause!
